Description:
The expressive shape of Say My Name speaks volumes about light, colour and handcraftsmanship. The design combines contemporary lines and smooth contours with the artistry of traditional glass-making techniques. Function and form come together in two lights created in one signature style: a pendant light and a table lamp. The skill required to transform such a large mass of molten glass into a hollow sphere could only be found among master glassblowers in Venice, where each lamp is hand-blown entirely from Venetian glass.

This season, we’ve replaced the original purple colour with classic grey, giving Say My Name a more neutral tone. Like the original version, the new colour is created in the glass furnaces of Venice, and will be available with a glossy transparent surface or a matt finish.

Description:
Dokka is a small light with a big history. Designed in 1954, Dokka was the first lamp from Norway to receive a Golden Medal award at the prestigious Triennale di Milano. Acclaimed for its smooth contours, precise proportions and sleek handling of materials, Dokka had the potential to become a design classic from day one. Dokka became one of the best-selling pendant lamps ever produced in Norway, then abruptly disappeared when the previous manufacturer discontinued their lighting range.

In 2007, Northern Lighting re-launched Dokka, taking care to preserve the features that made it a design classic. Northern Lighting recently added four new matt colours to the Dokka series – aqua green, petrol blue, light grey and dark grey – and developed new finishes for the existing black and white versions. Today, Dokka is expertly crafted in durable painted steel and made to last. An icon of its time, Dokka remains popular today, and is destined to become an antique in the future.

Description:
Christened with a name often given to extravagant personalities, this set of bent plywood pendant lamps has a lot to live up to. Like others who share the name, Diva takes centre stage. When suspended from the ceiling, the pendant version provides an attractive focal point while softly diffusing light over the room beneath it. The shade’s spiralling shape creates a multi-directional design that can be appreciated from two different vantage points, forming two distinct versions of a single design.

The floor lamp is attached to a discreet base made of polished steel. The inner stem supports a mouth-blown glass globe with a frosted surface that softens the light. Both versions of Diva are available in laminated oak or walnut, materials chosen for their ability to create sweeping, sculptural shapes that remain durable and strong. Made from 32 individual strips of wood, the lamp is handmade using the tools and techniques of traditional Norwegian laminated wood craftsmanship. Whether illuminated at night or seen in the cold light of day, Diva promises to make its presence felt.

Description:
2016 marked the centenary of Birger Dahl’s birth, which Northern commemorated with the launch of this timeless glass pendant. Dahl designed the lamp in 1956 and installed it in the renovated Norwegian Parliament building two years later. Although Dahl is a classic mid-century design, its minimal form and smooth, unembellished surfaces still have a contemporary appearance today. The shade is made from mouth-blown glass and etched by a surface treatment that creates a smooth matt finish. Dahl’s metal parts are dark grey or made in matt brass. The shade attaches to a metal disc at the top and makes space for a pair of concentric rings to slot into the opening down below. The pendant has the same understated features that characterise Dokka and Birdy – two other classic Birger Dahl designs also re-introduced by Northern.

Description:
Butterfly is a small wall lamp that was designed in 1964 for Arnold Wiigs Fabrikker and later produced by Høvik Lys of Norway. In 2008 Northern Lighting decided to relaunch this Norwegian design treasure. Its uniquness lies in the combination of simplicity of form and a well preserved indirect method of exposing light, creating a bright but warm atmosphere. It looks simple, but is elegant and decorative as a single item, and is even more so when several are combined in vertical or horizontal groups.

Description:
Birdy is a table, wall and floor lamp series designed in 1952, in a modernist style. The lamp series was produced and sold by the Norwegian electricity company Sønnico (Oslo) for many years. In 1954 the table lamp, then known as “s-30016” was awarded the highly esteemed Golden Medal at the Milan triennale.

In 2013 Northern Lighting decided to re-launch this design classic, taking care to preserve the original shape and highly functional features that at first made it such a well–loved light. The lamp series is available in off-white or matt grey colour with satin nickel finish and matt black colour with brass metal finish. To commemorate the centenary of Dahl’s birth in 1916, a new version of Birdy table is available in the colour Marsala, produced in a numbered series.

Acorn’s streamlined shape was inspired by a natural form, giving it organic contours and an understated profile. The shade resembles the empty shell of an acorn, which becomes hollow once the ripened nut has broken free. Like an acorn’s stem, the top of the shade tapers into a tactile shape. Streamlined and sophisticated, the lamp is suspended from the ceiling by a silk cord that conceals the power cable inside it. The lamp attaches to the ceiling with ceiling canopy crafted in the same style as the shade.
