The bankers lamp is one of the few shapes that has not needed redesigning in a century. A low glass shade on a metal arm, sitting close to the desk so the light lands on the page and not in your eyes. This one keeps that outline and adds a one stage touch switch, so there is no toggle or pull chain to find. Touch the metalware and it is on, touch it again and it is off.

The dark green glass is the classic pairing, warm and slightly moody, and it sits particularly well against the antique brass finish. There is a gloss opal shade if you would rather have more light in the room than atmosphere, and the base comes in antique brass, brass, chrome or black, so it can lean traditional or read as something plainer on a modern desk.

At 400mm high and 270mm wide it earns its place on a study desk, a hall console or a bookshelf without crowding it. Metal base, glass shade, no plastic in sight.

One important limitation before you buy. Touch lamps are fussy about globes. This one needs a good quality dimmable globe and will not work reliably with compact fluorescents or with some LEDs. If in doubt, buy a dimmable globe from a brand you recognise rather than the cheapest one on the shelf.

Bankers Lamp report
The Bankers Lamp gives a beautiful light which enables repetitive tasks like Accounting become almost pleasurable because the illumination falls on the task only and at the same time keeps glare from affecting the eyes. It’s a pleasure to use, and the Touch facility prevents one from having to search for the switch.

Bankers Touch Light
I love the opaque white shade on the traditional green bankers light! I always wanted one and this suits my decor very well.
Works well.
Pity it didn't come with the light bulb.
