This is our hanging G95 carbon filament model. This festoon we have set up out the front of our lighting shop in Matraville and our customers just love it. The globes give off a beautiful ambiance and the size of the globes a perfect match with the string itself.
The majority of festoons sold on the market have an IP of 20 or 23, which is fine for a one-time event or indoors.
If you plan to keep your lights for a long period, I recommend purchasing festoons with an IP44 seal at the base of the lamp holder. The seal at the base of the lamp holder is created by tightening up the globe tightly, which creates a seal top that prevents water from entering.
When hanging your festoon lights, make sure the globes face down and not up to avoid water from seeping inside. Check the seal on the base of the lamp holder for any cracks or breaks before installing it. Every socket on a festoon light must include a globe; if one goes bad, leave it in place before replacing it.
If you plan on running your festoons long term I recommend going with a 24v low voltage festoon. This festoon light comes with a driver which brings it down from 240v to 24v so if water was to somehow to get into the light then less risk is involved.
With just 40 watts per 20 meters, this fixture will last 5-10 years and cost you less than $20 in electricity per year, assuming you run it for 20 minutes each day. This is a very inexpensive power bill if you went with an incandescent version; it would consume 500 watts per 20 meters. So if you plan on running all of the time then this is a good option.
Probably the most important decision you must make when it comes to festoon lighting is whether or not to use LEDs. As previously stated, if you choose LEDs, you will only consume 40 watts rather than 500.
If you run frequently, I highly recommend LED globes since they will last 40,000 hours. The incandescent festoon lighting is our most affordable option, which is ideal for a short-term application such as a party or a wedding; nevertheless, these will burn out in about 2000 hours.
Carbon filament bulbs are the most attractive globes when turned on, they provide a warm atmosphere that resembles a candle light, which LEDs still have trouble achieving correctly.
Carbon filaments last approximately 3,000 hours and should last 1-2 years depending on how much you use them. If you want the greatest impact for your festoon lighting, go with carbon filaments; you'll fall in love with them immediately. Our most popular models are the pear form and G95.
All of our festoon lighting comes with 3 loops for you to attach to a fixture. We recommend not suspending more than 6 meters per each drop. Cable ties are a great option to use to do this.
An extra addition you can look out to create even more ambience is the cage batten accessory to put on each lamp holder. Putting the cage battens on the festoon lights gives a much more industrial, traditional feel.
We mostly sell these 2 models and really just comes down to personal preference but with the hanging model, they will create even more mood style to the application
To know if your festoon lights are weatherproof you will need to ensure they have an IP44 rating or above. All of the festoon lighting kits that we sell are weatherproof and have an IP44 rating or higher.
You do not need an electrician to install our festoon lights. All of our festoon lighting comes with a 240v plug that you plug into a regular Australian power point.
