Lamps

Table lamps, floor lamps, desk and task lamps, bedside lamps and reading lamps, along with kids and novelty designs. Table and bedside lamps suit side tables and bedsides and are mostly about mood and a warm pool of light. Floor lamps fill a corner or sit beside a sofa and do more of the room lighting. Desk and reading lamps are directional, so they put light on the page or the work surface rather than spreading it around.

The size of a lamp is almost as important as the design. This is particularly the case for table lamps, which you can find specific guidance on in our lamp buying guide here.

No. Table, floor, desk and bedside lamps plug into a standard power point and work straight out of the box, unlike a ceiling fitting which has to be hardwired by a licensed electrician. That is a large part of their appeal: you can move a lamp between rooms, take it with you when you move house, and change how a room feels without any electrical work or cost.

No, not all lamp shades can be replaced or changed. Some lamps have fixed shades, while others are designed with removable ones. It really depends on the individual lamp’s design, how it’s constructed, and the materials used.

If you’re looking for a replacement shade, you can explore our lamp shade collection here where you'll find a range of styles and sizes to suit different lamps.

LED lamps are the best option if you're looking for an energy-efficient lamp. LED globes both last longer and use less energy too.

We would also recommend considering a lamp with a replaceable globe. This will make future maintenance easier and ensure your lamp continues to shine without needing to replace the whole fitting. This is possible with most styles of lamp, however some are limited to an integrated LED only. If you're unsure, one of our team will be able to advise via live chat.

Halogen lamps can be dimmable, but it usually depends on the type of globe you’re using. If your setup includes a halogen globe, we highly recommend upgrading to an LED. LEDs are more energy-efficient, cost-effective, and often provide a wider range of dimming options with less heat output.
