LED extrusions are used to house and mount LED strips. They are channels that your strip will fit into and are often, but not always, made from aluminium.
Choosing the correct profile for your strip is crucial. You should consider the design of the profile but more crucially the size. Your LED strip should fit tightly inside the channel for a neat finish and to ensure optimal lighting.
It’s important to look at the measurements of your strip when buying a profile. Often, the profile will advise what width and depth of strip it will take; however, we recommend double-checking this with your own measurements. The length of the strip is less important since profiles can usually be cut to size, but it’s worth trying to get one around the right length to prevent wastage and unnecessarily paying additional costs.
LED profiles come in a variety of designs and specifications, including:
“Standard” profiles are meant for use on walls and ceilings. They are typically square, but you can also find their shapes such as half-round options as well as different depths depending on how exposed you want your LED strip to be. You also get hanging profiles if you want to suspend your strip such as over a kitchen island or dining table.
Winged channels have a slight outwards flick on the open section of the channel. This is why winged channels are so popular for recessed LED strips.
As the name suggests, these are designed to fit at the 90-degree vertex of the corner. They are a useful, stylish source of light in otherwise tricky spaces.
LED strips are flexible, and these non-linear channels make for interesting designs and lighting features.
