RGB LED strip, 12w per metre, IP54
This colour changing strip adds an IP54 protective coating, so you can bring RGB lighting into bathrooms, kitchens and sheltered outdoor spaces. It runs at 12w per metre with 180 chips per metre and 500 lumens per metre.
Use it for colour accents under vanities, behind splashbacks, along covered alfresco ceilings or in entertaining areas where a bare strip is not suitable.

Choosing a driver and controller
Allow 12w for every metre of strip and add about 20% headroom. A full 5 metre run, the maximum length, draws 60w, so it needs a 24v driver of at least 72w, which in practice means a 100w driver. For longer installations, split the strip into runs of 5 metres or less and give each run its own feed. Your RGB controller must also be rated for the full load of every run it drives. Outdoors or in damp areas, use a weatherproof IP66 or IP67 driver and controller, or keep them under cover.
Mounting and heat
This strip runs fairly cool, but we recommend mounting it in an aluminium profile. The profile draws heat away from the chips, protects the strip and extends its life, and a diffuser gives the softest line of light. Choose a profile at least 11mm wide inside to suit the 10mm strip. The 3M double sided tape on the back makes fixing straightforward.
If you cut the strip, reseal every cut end with an end cap and silicone to keep the IP54 rating, and make any outdoor joins in a waterproof connector or junction box.
