A metal shade over a clear well glass, which is the shape most people picture when they think of a traditional outdoor wall light. The shade caps the top and throws the light downward onto the path or the door, while the clear glass keeps the globe visible as a warm point rather than hiding it behind a diffuser.
The finish is textured rather than smooth, with a fine sandy grain that catches daylight and hides the marks a flat gloss finish would show after a season outdoors. It is the detail that lifts this above a plain painted fitting.
Hamptons is the obvious styling match, particularly in white against weatherboard, but the black version works just as well on a dark rendered wall or a modern entry.
