Textured white glazed ceramic with antique brass metalwork, finished with a white linen drum shade. The brass is the reason this works. Without it the lamp would be white on white and disappear; with it there is a warm line running through the piece that ties it to brass tapware, handles or picture frames elsewhere in the room.
Antique brass rather than polished brass matters too. It has a softer, aged tone that suits coastal and Hamptons interiors and does not shout the way a bright finish does. The texture in the ceramic adds a second layer of interest so the base still reads as considered from across the room.
