A brushed chrome bracket, a cylinder of matt opal glass, and nothing else. Sconces like this one are bought for the rooms where the lighting should not be the story: a hallway, a landing, a wall beside a mirror, a bedside alcove.

Matt opal glass is the reason it works. Where clear glass leaves you looking straight at the globe, opal diffuses everything into an even glow across the whole cylinder, so the fitting itself becomes the light source. There is no hot spot and no glare, which is what you want at head height.

The cylinder faces downward, throwing light onto the wall and the floor below rather than up into the ceiling. It projects 150mm off a compact 100mm backplate, so it stays out of the way in a narrow passage.

Matching pendant versions are available in one, three and five light configurations if you want the same look overhead.

One E27 globe up to 60 watts, sold separately, LED or compact fluorescent. A licensed electrician is required.

Understated!
Bought four of these for a large lounge/dining area. They are replacements for wall lights from the 70's and they have added a lovely quiet, understated tone to the room. They fit beautifully and I am very pleased with the quality and ease of install.
