This is a wall washer, which means it is aimed at the wall rather than at the room. The shade throws its light up and across the surface behind it, so what you see is a broad glow on the plaster or brick rather than a bright fitting.

The inside of the shade is finished dark rather than the usual white. That is a deliberate choice. A white liner bounces everything straight back out and makes the fitting bright to look at, while a dark liner absorbs some of it and leaves a warmer, gentler wash. It is the detail that makes this work in a hallway, where you walk past at close range, or above a picture, a fireplace or a textured feature wall.

Two finishes are offered, black and rubbed bronze, both squarely in industrial vintage territory. It projects 225mm from the wall on a 220mm shade.

One E27 globe up to 60 watts, not included, and it will take LED or compact fluorescent happily. A licensed electrician is required.
