Two materials, and the contrast between them is the design. Crisp white painted metalware gives the lamp a clean modern outline, and the woven rattan shade sitting on top of it brings the texture and warmth that stops a white lamp feeling clinical. It is a combination that works in a bedroom, a study or on a hall table.
The shade angle adjusts, which is more useful than it sounds. Tilted down it becomes a directed reading light beside a bed or over a desk. Tilted up it bounces light off the wall and turns into ambient light for the corner. One lamp, two jobs, decided by hand rather than at the switch.
Rattan is an open material, so some light escapes through the weave as well as out of the ends. Expect a soft glow around the shade rather than a hard edged pool, which is the right character for a bedside lamp.
