Light on the floor, not in your eyes
A step light does something no ceiling fitting can. It puts light at ankle height, where the trip hazard actually is, without the glare of a downlight pointed at people walking toward it. In a stairwell, a hallway at night, or a home theatre where you want the screen to stay the brightest thing in the room, that is the entire argument.
This one is deliberately small and plain. An 80mm square face sitting flush in the wall, no bezel drama, no visible fixings. Recessed 70mm into a 66 x 73mm cutout, so it disappears into plasterboard rather than sitting proud of it.
The 3W LED gives around 130 lumens, which sounds modest and is exactly right. You are marking a path, not lighting a room. Colour rendition is Ra84 or better, so timber treads and carpet keep their real colour instead of going grey. Fixed 3000K and 4000K versions are available, along with a tri colour model where 3000K, 4000K or 5500K is selected at installation.
Each fitting ships with its own 350mA constant current driver, which must be used. Read the notes below before ordering, particularly the dimmer warning.
