Choosing a driver

This spike light runs on 12v DC, so it needs a 12v LED driver (sometimes called a transformer). It cannot connect straight to 240v mains. The driver is wired in by a licensed electrician.

Allow 7w for each spike light and add about 20% headroom. 7 spike lights draw 49w, so they need a 12v driver of at least 59w, which in practice means a 60w driver.

12v driver size	Maximum spike lights
30w	3
60w	7
100w	11
150w	17

For bigger installs, split the lights across two or more drivers and place each driver close to its group. Long cable runs at low voltage lose brightness at the far end, so check your cable size with the voltage drop calculator below.

Outdoors, use a weatherproof IP66 12v driver and mount it above ground, clear of garden beds and pooling water.

Planning your install? Use our voltage drop calculator to choose the right cable size for your run and keep every light at full brightness.
